Melissa Ann Walsh, Global America US Ambassador 2012, was born in Ashland Ohio in 1967 and now spends most of her time traveling. Melissa is the daughter of a retired coal miner and her mother who works at a high school. Melissa has a son Christopher who lives and works in the Netherlands. years later Melissa found herself in waters she never expected. She spent several years in an abusive relationship and nowhere to go for help. Melissa sought out and found help through the WIN Foundation (Women In Need) in 2003. Later she became a spokesperson for WIN. Melissa traveled talking about her abuse, how she found the courage to leave and how WIN helped her.
In 2003, Melissa finally found herself by doing what she once loved as a teenager, pageants. After more than a 17 year absents, she was once again on stage in her first national pageant. She did not place but had a wonderful time that she did it again. No placing this time around, so she tried a third and fourth time but only to her surprise she received 1st runner-up at both. She knew with work and patience it would pay off and the 5th time it did. She was crowned MS American Queen 2007. After the year reign making appearances, articles in magazines, newspapers, TV, radio and the internet, it all came close to an end when Melissa's family was told by doctors that she only had about a 2% chance of making it through the night on November 7, 2008 from a car accident. With the odds against her, Melissa made a remarkable recovery with months of therapy, and again she found herself on stage in another national pageant. This time it was a little different, she had recently been diagnosed with Epilepsy. To her surprise once again, she won, this time as Global US Woman 2009-2010 and later Mrs. Global America US Woman 2010-2011 and Mrs. Global America Woman 2010-2011.
Now with Epilepsy and not knowing when and if a seizure will take place, Melissa learns as much as possible about Epilepsy and she takes it on the road with her personal appearances. Not only does Melissa make appearances speaking on Epilepsy here in the US but has taken it a step further into Europe. What a great opportunity to spend time with her son, and at the same time with the help of her son, she found countries in Europe to speak on a topic that so few know much about. Melissa will continue to speak on Epilepsy whenever she can and now she has taken under her wing too sister queen’s. Saishu Combs which just happens to be her niece and Tiffany Colley which is Melissa and Saishu’s cousin. The three of them are working on an Epilepsy skit that they will perform during their rein. Melissa, Saishu and Tiffany will be making other appearances, such as the VA Hospitals, TV and as many newspapers as possible.
